Fix Foxit Access Data From Other Apps Prompt on Mac

Provides a fix for the macOS prompt asking whether Foxit PDF Editor can access data from other apps.

Answer

This is a privacy feature included in macOS Sonoma and later. if an application that isn’t supposed to or doesn’t have permission attempts to access data from a folder(this can be one of the open folders in your workspace), then it triggers this pop-up as the screenshot to ask for permission. Furthermore, you will also see this prompt each time you open the application if the folder is still being accessed because the allow permission is only active for the instance of the application. This explains why people keep receiving the “app would like to access data from other apps” message.

You may change the setting to allow Full Disk Access(Grant) to the app on Mac:

  1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & Security from the left sidebar.
  3. Then choose Full Disk Access(Grant) on the right pane.
  4. If the Foxit PDF Editor is listed there, Check the Foxit PDF Editor to enable Full Disk Access (Grant).

5. If you can’t see it there, click the Lock (+) button at the bottom of the box, enter your password if asked, select the Foxit PDF Editor from Applications.

Note: If you prefer not to grant full disk access to Foxit PDF Editor by following the above-mentioned approach, you may choose to remove or disable the Foxit add-on in Microsoft Office apps. This should stop the prompt from appearing, as it is triggered by the Foxit add-on in Microsoft Office apps. Here are the instructions on how to disable the Foxit Add-on in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint:

  • In Word: Navigate to the top menu, select "Tools" then "Templates and Add ins", uncheck the box before "Word Addin.dot".
  • In Excel: Go to the top menu, select "Tools" then "Excel Add in", uncheck the box before "Excel Add in".
  • In PowerPoint: From the top menu, select "Tools" then "PowerPoint Add ins", uncheck the box before "PowerPoint Add in".
