How Do I Edit a PDF Using AI Chat?

Open AI Chat in Foxit PDF Editor and type your edit request in plain language -- for example, "delete pages 4 to 6" -- and AI Assistant makes the change for you.

You need Foxit PDF Editor Desktop (Windows or Mac) version 2026.2 or later, with AI Assistant enabled and available credits or an active AI Assistant subscription. This feature is not currently available in Foxit PDF Editor Cloud, Foxit Workspace, or on mobile.

At launch, AI Chat can carry out the following actions when you describe them in plain language:

• Find and mark up content
• Find and replace text
• Find and redact content
• Reorder, rotate, delete, extract, or insert pages
• Add page numbers
• Update a watermark
• Optimize the document
• Convert the PDF to another format
• Protect the document
• Get the document's bookmarks

Step 1: Open AI Chat

With your PDF open in Foxit PDF Editor, click the AI Assistant tab on the ribbon, then click AI Chat.

Step 2: Type your request in plain language

Describe the edit you want in the AI Chat input box -- for example, "delete pages 4 to 6" or "add a watermark that says Draft to every page." Naming exact pages or exact text gets a more accurate result than a vague description.

Step 3: Review the result

AI Assistant carries out the request and applies the change directly to the open document.

Check the document against what you asked for -- for example, confirm the specific pages were deleted, or the watermark text and placement match your request -- before saving. If the result isn't right, undo the change and resubmit your request with more specific wording.

AI Chat responds, but the resulting edit doesn't match the request, or nothing happens at all.

Possible causes: the request was too vague (for example, "fix the pages" instead of naming specific page numbers); AI Assistant isn't enabled, or no credits are available; or the requested action isn't one of the actions AI Chat currently supports.

1. Check whether AI Assistant is enabled and whether credits are available, under AI Settings > Usage.
2. Compare your request against the supported-actions list above.
3. Rephrase the request with specific details -- name exact pages or exact text rather than relative terms -- and try again.
4. If the action isn't in the supported list, use the equivalent tool directly from the ribbon instead of AI Chat.

Confirm the fix: Re-run the request and confirm the document now reflects exactly what you asked for.
