How to fix " MSALErrorDomain error -50000" when signing to a MIP account in Foxit PDF Editor/Foxit PDF Reader for Mac

Answer

This article explains how to fix the “The operation couldn't be completed. (MSALErrorDomain error -50000.)” that appears when you sign in to a Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) account in Foxit PDF Editor/Foxit PDF Reader for Mac.

Issue Description

When you click Sensitivity Labels on the Protect tab in Foxit PDF Editor / Foxit PDF Reader for Mac, you may receive the error message “The operation couldn't be completed. (MSALErrorDomain error -50000.)”. The app uses MSAL as the default MIP login library, and this library may fail to complete the sign-in process in certain environments.

You can resolve it by switching the MIP login library to ADAL with the Foxit Customization Tool (FCT).

Solution: Switch the MIP Login Library to ADAL

Step 1. Change the MIP Login Library to ADAL

By default, the program uses MSAL as its MIP login library. Open the Foxit Customization Tool (FCT) and change the MIP login library to ADAL.

Step 2. Sign In to Your MIP Account

After switching to ADAL, restart Foxit PDF Editor / Foxit PDF Reader. Click Protect > Sensitivity on the Protect tab. The ADAL login dialog box appears. Sign in with your MIP account credentials, and the login completes successfully.

Quick Tip: If the login dialog does not appear right away, make sure you restarted Foxit PDF Editor after changing the login library in FCT.
