How to Integrate Foxit PDF Editor Cloud with SharePoint

Answer

Summary

This article explains how administrators and site owners can deploy the Foxit PDF Editor Cloud app to SharePoint via the Store or App Catalog, and how end users can access it once deployed.

Prerequisites

  • SharePoint Administrator or Site Owner role
  • Access to SharePoint Admin Center and/or App Catalog
  • Microsoft 365 tenant with access to Microsoft AppSource
  • Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint available in your region's marketplace

1. Where to Find This App

The Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint app is available from two locations:

2. Deployment Options for Administrators

This SPFx solution can be deployed from the SharePoint Store (Microsoft AppSource) or your organization's App Catalog. As an administrator, you have two deployment options:

Option 1 — "Only Enable This App"

This option adds the app to your tenant's App Catalog only. Site owners and users with appropriate permissions must then manually add the app to specific sites or Microsoft 365 Groups.

How Site Owners Add the App After Administrator Enables It

  1. Navigate to the SharePoint site — Go to the site where you want to use this app.
  1. Open the Add an App menu — Click the Settings (gear icon) in the top-right corner and select Add an app.
  1. Locate the app — On the My Apps page, find and click the tile named Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint.
  2. Install the app — Click Add to complete the installation on this site.

Note: The installation will take a moment. Once complete, go to any document library on that site. When you select a PDF or a supported Office file, the Open with Foxit PDF Editor option will appear in the file menu or toolbar. Feature availability can take up to 30 minutes due to Microsoft 365 CDN caching and propagation delays.

Expected Result: After installation, the Open with Foxit PDF Editor option will appear in the document library toolbar when a PDF or supported file is selected:

Option 2 — "Enable This App and Add It to All Sites"

This option deploys and installs the app automatically across all sites in your tenant. The Foxit PDF Editor Cloud app becomes immediately available to all users without any additional steps from site owners.

Note: Use this option if you want a tenant-wide rollout without requiring individual site owners to take action. Note that this deployment cannot be undone on a per-site basis if the administrator used this method — see the Uninstall article for details.

3. For End Users — Requesting Access

End users do not need to download or install anything. Once an administrator has deployed the app, it will be available directly within SharePoint document libraries.

If the app has not been added to a specific site and you want to use it, you can request access from your SharePoint administrator or site owner. To submit a request:

  1. Navigate to the site — Go to the SharePoint site where you want to use the app.
  2. Locate the app listing — Find the Foxit PDF Editor Cloud for SharePoint tile in the Apps section.

  3. Submit a request — Click Request to notify your administrator. They will receive an approval request and can add the app to the site.

Note: The app should become effective within 30 minutes of administrator approval. If the Open with Foxit PDF Editor option does not appear after 30 minutes, refresh the page and try again.

Note: Due to a fundamental limitation of the SharePoint Framework (SPFx), third‑party solutions cannot override the default file open behavior in SharePoint document libraries. Foxit PDF Editor Cloud cannot replace the built‑in SharePoint viewer (Office Online / browser viewer) when users left‑click a PDF. To open a PDF with Foxit, users must either right‑click the file or click the three‑dot (···) menu next to the file name, and then select "Open with Foxit PDF Editor".

Troubleshooting

"Open with Foxit PDF Editor" option does not appear after installation

  • Wait up to 30 minutes for Microsoft 365 CDN propagation to complete.
  • Perform a hard refresh in the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R).
  • Verify the app is listed under Site Contents for the specific site.

End user sees the app tile but cannot add it

  • The user may not have Site Owner or Site Member permissions. Contact your SharePoint administrator.

App is not visible in the Microsoft Marketplace or App Catalog

  • Confirm your Microsoft 365 tenant has AppSource access enabled by your Global Administrator.
  • Confirm the app is available in your region.
