Reason for Signing

Explains the Reason for Signing field used when applying a digital signature in Foxit PDF Editor.

The Reason for Signing feature presents a predetermined selection of reasons from which the recipient may select. In accordance with 21 CFR Part 11, a signer must be identified during the signing session. The reason for signing has an impact on the manifestation of the signature.

Recipients are asked to provide a signing reason. The signer intent is manifested on the Signature Certificate once the document is completed by all parties.

Enable Reason for Signing
  1. Select ‘Login Required by Signer’ from Security under the Settings tab .



  2. Select Yes for ‘ Reason for Signing’ .

  3. (Optional) Set ‘Signatures/Initials Require Password Validation’ to Yes .
