Supported Files, Formats, and Usage Limits in AI Workspace

Each AI Workspace project accepts up to 100 files, with each file up to 100 MB and 2,000 pages, across PDF, Office, Markdown, plain text, and image formats. This guide covers source types, generation outputs, and AI credits.

Answer

Prerequisites
  • Foxit PDF Editor v2026.2 or later on Windows or Mac, signed in with an account that has an active Foxit AI subscription.
  • An internet connection — uploads, analysis, and generation run through cloud AI services.
  • Familiarity with creating a project. If you have not built one yet, start with Getting Started with Foxit AI Workspace.
Ways to Add Sources to a Project

Every project gathers material through the left panel. Four input paths are available, plus content brought in through connected external services:

Input path Use it for
Local file Documents and images on your computer.
Foxit cloud files Material already stored in your Foxit cloud account.
Web link Online pages and articles you want the AI to read as a source.
Pasted text Snippets, notes, or content copied from anywhere.
Connected services Content pulled in through MCP connectors such as Atlassian, Asana, Notion, HubSpot, and Fireflies. See Connecting External Data Sources to AI Workspace.
Supported File Formats

AI Workspace accepts the following file types as project sources:

Category Formats
PDF Standard PDF documents.
Office documents Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
Text Markdown and plain text files.
Images Common image files added as visual sources.

Files in formats outside this list are rejected at upload. If your material lives in another format, convert it first — for most cases, exporting to PDF from the original application is the fastest route.

Usage Limits
Limit Value What happens at the limit
Files per project 100 Additional uploads to that project are rejected. Split material across projects or remove sources you no longer need.
Size per file 100 MB The file is rejected at upload. Compress or split the file.
Pages per file 2,000 The file is rejected at upload. Split the document into parts.
⚠ Warning: Limits apply per file and per project, not per account. A file that passes the size check can still be rejected on page count, and vice versa — check both before splitting large documents, so you split them the right way once. What AI Workspace Can Generate

Generated outputs are called crafts and are saved into the project that produced them. Six deliverable types are available:

  • Document — Markdown-based written output.
  • Presentation — slide output.
  • Image
  • Diagram
  • Mind map
  • Webpage

In addition, Skill-based outputs cover common jobs directly: summaries, quizzes, flashcards, reports, document comparisons, and knowledge graphs. Text-based crafts (Markdown, webpages, diagrams) are editable in the center panel after generation; every craft can be shared through a shareable link.

AI Credits

Cloud AI usage across Foxit AI features draws on AI credits associated with the subscription. Two provisions in the 2026.2 release matter for planning capacity:

  • AI credit packs — administrators can purchase additional credits from the Admin Console for teams with heavy usage.
  • AI subscription pooling — administrators can share subscriptions across users, which also concentrates how credits are consumed and monitored.

Note that in the PDF Editor AI Assistant, usage routed through a Bring Your Own Model configuration does not consume Foxit AI credits.

Reviewer note (remove before publish): Per-action credit consumption rates for AI Workspace operations and included credit amounts per subscription tier are pending PM confirmation (Sophy Huang). Publish this section only after those numbers are verified.Troubleshooting Uploads and Generation

Upload rejected

Check the three limits above first — file count in the project, file size, and page count — then confirm the format is on the supported list. A scanned document saved in an unusual container format is the most common silent offender; re-save it as a standard PDF.

Project will not accept more files

You have likely hit the 100-file project cap. Remove sources that are no longer relevant, or split the work into a second project. Focused projects also produce sharper AI answers, so splitting often improves results anyway.

Generation seems to ignore a source

Confirm the source is selected in the left panel. AI Chat loads context from the sources you select or open, so an uploaded-but-unselected file contributes nothing. See AI Workspace Troubleshooting and FAQ for the full diagnostic path.
