What Does the "Enable Local Fonts" Prompt Mean in Foxit Workspace?Last updated September 3, 2026 · 1 min read · Tier L1
Short answerWhen previewing certain documents, Foxit Workspace may ask: "Would you like to enable local fonts for a more accurate font display? Click 'Cancel' to keep the current font settings." Choosing OK lets Workspace use fonts already installed on your computer so the preview matches the original document more closely; choosing Cancel keeps the current, more limited preview fonts.
Applies to: Foxit Workspace, version 0.1.3 and laterWhat am I seeing? This is a standard browser permission prompt (the Local Font Access API), not a Foxit error. It appears when Workspace's document preview wants to check which fonts are installed on your device.
Why does Workspace need this?Without local font access, a document preview can only use generic web-safe fonts or fonts embedded in the file itself. If the original document references a font that's installed on your computer but not embedded in the file (a corporate font, a CJK font, a specialty typeface), the preview substitutes a generic look-alike -- which can shift spacing, ligatures, and glyph shapes slightly. Allowing local font access lets the preview use your real installed font instead, for a more accurate match to the original.
Should I click OK or Cancel?Either is safe. Click OK if a document isn't rendering with the fonts you expect and you're comfortable letting the app check your installed font list. Click Cancel to keep the current settings -- the document still previews, just with Workspace's default font substitution instead of your exact local fonts.
